VNIX-NOG 2025 with the theme “Peering 2.0: IPv6-Only Automation, Driving the Next Leap

On October 17, in Nha Trang City, VNIX-NOG 2025 took place under the theme “Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only Automation – Driving the Next Leap.” The conference emphasized the importance of enhancing peering connectivity and promoting the development of the next-generation Internet through IPv6-only deployment and network automation, with the goal of achieving a future-ready Internet infrastructure.

VNIX-NOG 2025 was organized as a series of events, including a Workshop on Peering and Securing Internet Routing in IPv6-Only Network Infrastructure, and the main conference themed “Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only Automation – Driving the Next Leap.”

VNIX-NOG 2025 marked a special milestone — the 10th edition of the VNIX-NOG event, which has been held annually in Viet Nam since 2016. Participants included units under the Ministry of Science and Technology, leaders and experts from VNIX member organizations, IP/ASN member enterprises in Viet Nam, as well as international experts from global Internet organizations and associations (APNIC, APIX), IX operators, and major regional and global companies such as TREX, Akamai, and AWS.

Viet Nam National Internet eXchange (VNIX) – The Connectivity Platform Driving the Development of National Internet Infrastructure

The Viet Nam National Internet eXchange (VNIX) was established in 2003 by the Viet Nam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) to ensure the security and stability of Viet Nam’s Internet, connect Internet service providers (ISPs), and promote the growth of the national Internet ecosystem.

VNIX has played a key role in the formation and development of Viet Nam’s Internet. Over the years, it has expanded IPv6 connectivity to 100% of its members, becoming one of the Internet exchange points (IXPs) with the highest IPv6 adoption rate in the region. VNIX currently connects over 50 members across five exchange points (including three main sites and two PoPs located at data centers of major enterprises), comprising ISPs, content providers, and large data centers. This interconnection enhances domestic traffic exchange, reduces latency, and optimizes international bandwidth costs.

At the same time, VNNIC has implemented routing automation, RPKI-based route validation, and real-time connection quality monitoring, contributing to a secure, reliable, and sustainable Internet infrastructure — ready for Viet Nam’s transition to IPv6-Only, the Industrial Internet, and smart city development.

As Viet Nam advances into a new phase of national digital transformation, VNIX continues to expand its reach, attracting more participation from content providers, educational institutions, financial organizations, and government agencies. Under the concept of “Peering 2.0”, the next generation of VNIX connectivity — powered by IPv6 Only and automation — will enable networks to interconnect more efficiently, operate more intelligently and flexibly, and be fully prepared for the next-generation Internet.

VNIX-NOG 2025 – A Decade of Pioneering Connectivity, Ready for the Next-Generation Internet Era

VNIX-NOG 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the series — a remarkable milestone in the journey of building a strong network operations community in Viet Nam. Over the past decade, VNIX-NOG has evolved beyond a platform for VNIX members to connect; it has become an annual technical forum bringing together network experts, engineers, and technology enterprises from Viet Nam and around the world to exchange experiences and promote a safe, sustainable, and scalable Internet.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Ngoc Duc, Chairman of the VNNIC Management Council, proudly shared that ten years since the first VNIX-NOG conference, the event has successfully gathered the country’s top Internet experts, establishing itself as an important technical and operational forum that contributes to the advancement of national digital infrastructure.

In the context of IPv4 exhaustion and the global Internet’s strong shift toward the next-generation addressing system, the VNIX-NOG 2025 Conference, themed “Peering 2.0: IPv6 Only Automation – Driving the Next Leap,” focuses on sharing technologies and solutions for a comprehensive transition to IPv6-Only — a network model that operates entirely on IPv6, eliminating all dependence on IPv4.

IPv6-Only is the essential foundation for building the next-generation Internet, as only IPv6 can meet the demands of massive addressing capacity and ultra-high-speed connectivity required for emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, cloud computing, and the Industrial Internet (IIoT). Viet Nam is recognized as one of the pioneering countries in Asia in preparing the necessary technical infrastructure, standards, and policies for this transition.

Alongside IPv6-Only, the theme of Network Automation was also emphasized as a pillar of innovation. Experts presented advanced solutions such as automated peering configuration, the application of RPKI and Route Origin Validation (ROV) for routing security, API-based network management, and automated troubleshooting tools. These automation solutions help shorten operational time, reduce human errors, and increase system reliability, paving the way for large-scale, flexible, and secure network operations.

VNIX-NOG 2025 continued to serve as a vital bridge connecting the Vietnamese technical community with the global Internet community. The presence of international experts such as Mr. Aleksi Suhonen (TREX, Finland), Mr. Kams Sze Yeung (Akamai Technologies), and Mr. Vincent “Achie” Atienza (Globe Telecom) reflected the strong regional interest in Viet Nam’s Internet development journey.

During the discussion session, speakers highlighted that Viet Nam stands out in the ASEAN region for its achievements in deploying IPv6, DNSSEC, and RPKI, as well as for building an independent, transparent, and secure Internet infrastructure.

Looking ahead, to prepare for the new era of the Internet, VNNIC will continue to develop and modernize the VNIX infrastructure, implementing advanced technologies such as IPv6 and RPKI to enhance routing security, while promoting the application of AI and automation in network operation, monitoring, and incident management to reduce DDoS attacks. At the same time, data-driven network analytics will be strengthened to improve member support, and provide insights, statistics, and forecasts on Viet Nam’s Internet development.

IPv6-Only and automation are not merely technical advancements — they represent a strategic turning point for Viet Nam to take full control of its digital infrastructure, ensure digital sovereignty, and prepare for the era of the intelligent Internet.

VNIX-NOG 2025 once again reaffirmed Viet Nam’s pioneering role in regional Internet development, paving the way for a faster, safer, and more sustainable next-generation Internet.

VNIX-NOG is the annual series for members of the Viet Nam National Internet eXchange (VNIX), organized by VNNIC since 2016, following the international Network Operators Group (NOG) model. The event extends beyond VNIX members to include Vietnamese network engineers and technical experts, with the goal of fostering information exchange, knowledge sharing, and collaboration in network operations and peering connectivity, as well as in the adoption of new Internet technologies to promote domestic Internet peering.

The Workshop Peering and Securing Internet Routing in IPv6-Only Network Infrastructure focused on advanced routing technologies and solutions, emphasizing IPv6-only development and automated network management as key drivers for next-generation Internet growth.

VNNIC has conducted comprehensive research and assessment to develop a roadmap for transitioning to IPv6-Only, with the target of completely phasing out IPv4 by 2030 and moving fully to IPv6-only operations. This roadmap enables the Internet community to begin IPv6-only deployment for access networks in agencies and organizations, advancing towards a modern, intelligent Internet infrastructure ready for the next era of the Internet.

From 17 to 20 September 2024, the 86th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD 86) was held in Da Nang City, Viet Nam. The conference focused on discussions surrounding the implementation of the “Internet for All” strategy, reaffirming the crucial role of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) and the Domain Name System (DNS) in the digital transformation era, and realizing cooperative commitments toward the shared goal of developing a safe, sustainable, and trusted Internet.
