VNNIC Internet Conference 2025: The Industrial Internet – An Inevitable Transition in the Internet of Things Era

On July 25, in Hanoi, the VNNIC Internet Conference 2025 (VIC 2025) took place, witnessing the participation of a large number of leaders/CEOs and leading domestic and international Internet experts. With the theme “Breakthrough Era in the development of Industrial Internet”, the conference sets the direction for the next stage of Internet development — the Industrial Internet, which leads the global digital transformation wave, in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

Overview of the Conference

In the context of the strong advancement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Internet serves as the foundation and the bridge for all socio-economic activities and is an essential component of digital infrastructure. Viet Nam is also undergoing a significant transformation in its digital infrastructure — from traditional connectivity platforms to the Internet of Everything, connecting devices, sensors, systems, and smart manufacturing networks.

Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in developing science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation clearly defines the direction for developing digital and technological infrastructure on the principles of “modernity, uniformity, security, safety, efficiency, and prevention of wastefulness", promotes the rapid development of big data platforms, data industries, and the data economy.

In that framework, the Internet of Things (IoT) is identified as a key component of the physical-digital infrastructure. Along with telecommunications, data, and digital technology infrastructures, it forms the foundational architecture for industrialization and modernization, promoting science, technology, and innovation — all in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW — towards the overall goal of making Viet Nam a developed, high-income nation, and one of the regional and global centers for digital technology and industry.

VIC 2025 marks the fourth year of the VNNIC Internet Conference series — a forum on Internet technology, infrastructure, and engineering that brings together experts and leaders from Viet Nam and abroad, with the shared goal of developing the Internet in Viet Nam. The event reflects the vision and leadership in Internet science and technology development and innovation, creating new space for the growth of digital infrastructure and the digital economy.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Director General of VNNIC

The transition to IPv6 and IPv6-only represents the first step towards a breakthrough era of the Industrial Internet, said Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, General Director of VNNIC at the conference. The transition to IPv6 is not merely the migration of the current Internet network to a new protocol or addressing generation, but a foundation for a larger, faster, safer, and flatter Internet, where digital values and innovation can thrive more strongly than ever before.

Viet Nam has taken the lead in IPv6 deployment (June 2025: 65.5% adoption rate, ranking 7th globally). At present, Viet Nam continues to pioneer future technology trends by promoting IPv6-only deployment for the 2026–2030 period, opening new space for the Internet, developing the Industrial Internet, and driving innovation for new digital services.

Plenary Session: “Vision and Strategy for the Industrial Internet – Core Infrastructure for Modern Manufacturing”

A highlight of this year’s conference was the Plenary Session themed “Vision and Strategy for the Industrial Internet – Core Infrastructure for Modern Manufacturing.”

Keynote speakers included:

  • Professor Jun Murai, Professor Emeritus at Keio University, known as the “Father of the Internet in Japan,” who presented a Global Vision toward the Internet of Everything society;
  • Mr. Bill Woodcock, CEO of Packet Clearing House (PCH), who spoke on Cloud, Data, and Internet Infrastructure in the context of the Industrial Internet; and
  • Mr. Sutrisno Xu, Director of Business Development for Southeast Asia, Pegatron Group, who shared practical and strategic perspectives on the 5G revolution in the era of the Industrial Internet.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Deputy Director General of VNNIC

Speaking at the plenary session, Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), emphasized that Viet Nam is undergoing a pivotal transition in its digital infrastructure — from traditional connectivity platforms to the Internet of Everything, connecting devices, sensors, systems, and smart manufacturing networks. He noted that the Industrial Internet is not merely a trend, but a core foundation for transforming growth models, modernizing production, and advancing smart cities, intelligent transportation, smart healthcare, and other digital sectors — thereby creating new drivers for economic growth and enhancing national competitiveness.

This transformation, he stressed, requires the Internet infrastructure to possess “ultra-large capacity, ultra-broad bandwidth, universality, sustainability, intelligence, openness, and security.” It must ensure tight integration between network infrastructure — including IPv6, 5G, Internet Exchange (IX), and digital resources — and services and data layers, such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), secure DNS systems, management policies, open standards, and international cooperation frameworks. A strong, open, and trustworthy Internet infrastructure is therefore the indispensable foundation for building a self-reliant, innovative, and globally connected Vietnamese Industrial Internet.

The morning plenary session also included a panel discussion on the topic: “Solutions for Developing the Industrial Internet – Connecting Science and Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation. The session featured the participation of leaders from VNNIC, representatives of departments under the Ministry of Science and Technology, executives from Viet Nam’s leading telecommunications enterprises, and domestic and international Internet experts.

Technical Sessions: Next-Generation Internet Infrastructure and Secure, Reliable Internet Operations

Following the main conference in the morning, two parallel technical sessions were held in the afternoon:

  • Developing Next-Generation Internet Infrastructure and IPv6 – The Foundation for IIoT

  • Secure and Reliable Internet Operations in the Era of the Industrial Internet

These sessions continued to discuss the development of safe, trusted, and adaptable Internet infrastructure that keeps pace with emerging Internet technologies such as IoT, 5G, 6G, and AI — paving the way for large-scale connectivity and supporting the Industrial Internet ecosystem.

VNNIC Implements IPv6 Only Access Model – Launches the Free VNNIC Public DNS64 Platform

At VIC 2025, VNNIC officially launched the VNNIC Public DNS64 platform, a free shared platform forming part of the national DNS ecosystem. The service is deployed to support government agencies, organizations, and enterprises in ensuring seamless Internet access in an IPv6-only environment.

Initially, the platform is provided for government agencies, with future plans to expand its capacity and scale to support organizations and enterprises nationwide throughout the IPv6-only transition period.
